OUTLAST

by Red Barrels

contextual information on the horror aspect.

The game outast inspired me for my horror aspect of this narrative piece by its pchological horror piece in the games as well as its disturbing scenes and parts of the game.

outlast was made by Red Barrals and is said to be the most scariest game out there, after being realesed in 2014, the game is still rated as the scariest horror game

Outlast

the aesthetic and the narrative of the game really stand out as the narrative itself was inspired by real life events such as the real event 'MKultra' is a 1953 illegal and immoral experiements on human beings, conducted unter MKultra involved the use of : psychedelic drugs, hypnosis, sensory deprivation,
sensory overload, isolation and electro shocks.

these expereiments shown in the game outlast was expieremnented on every type of person ranging from drug addicts and criminals to univercity students.
the US government used these type of expierements in attempted to either manipulate or control the minds of their citizens, the expirements resulted in 2 things, one a truth serum and two mind control.

a man who had been recruited by  MKultra has said to have joined a medical project that were researching a cure for schizophrenia, however they were injected with LSD-25 which in response to that made  them panic in a paranoid state as well as hallucinating, feeling violent and hours of paranoia hence why the characters in outlast act the way they are taking the inspiation of these peoples emotions into consideration

Horror photographic inspiration

taking inspiration from the game outlast, i am inspired by the use of the camcorder in the game and having the night vision as the only source of visual light. in the game the camcorder is a representation of the idea of saftey, untill the batteries run out then there is no sense of security.

Another idea i had for my horror ascpect is using a flashlight and using the exposure to blacken out the darkness  using the exposure.

one idea id like to keep, is to use foley sound and only use it without the use of dialogue

Horror Aspect

Incantation

a netflix film

Horror contextual information.

taking inspiration from the netflix film incantation, id like to use the idea of a curse being set apon the charcaters as well as the fact the use of sound is significantly important in this film as its based off of camera footatage through her own personal experiences, as well as it being based on a true story, incantation is inspiring in the way that there was no over the top jumpscares and or gore and was mainly based on the lingering feeling that the curse may be real, as the incantations on the screen relate to the idea of religion and felt as if you were watching a forbidden documentary video, taking this inspiration from incantation id like to make a short film kind of similar to the same feeling you would get if you were to watch this.

INCANTATION

behind the horrofying netflix inspired film, the context behind that inspired it was a incident in the Gushan district in 2005 where a family of six had claimed that they were possessed by various chinese folk religion deites.

the family had burned eachother with insence, hity eachother and splashed feces and urine on eqachother iin an attempt to expel the demons. in the end, they singled out their eldest daughter and attacked her until she then died of her injuries, the case was then considered as mass hysteria

other contextual information in the nextflix film was the use of the incorporated elements such as religious items such as tibetan buddism and hinduism, the mother buddist in the film is known as the Hindu Goddess Kali or Mahakali.

The goddess Mahakali is pictured as multi-limbed with dark blue skin and a protruding tongue she has dual meaning such as life, death, creation and distruction

mALCOM
Analysis

malcom represents the minoritys specifically Asian Americans, he uses the screen as a form of social media, which is symbolically used in the short poetry visual and we later see that the screen is then buried, again Jimmy Vi's use of symbolism is directly involved in the visual aesthetics as well as the use of the coloured screen of yellow, agian very symbolic.

Poetic Aspect

using one of my own poems or someone elses poem, id like to use cinematic shots and the use of cinephotography in this aespect as well the feel of the entire poem

possibly using wong kar wais aspect i would like to film a voiceover possibly in madarin with english subtitles.

from Jimmy Vi's inspiration, i would like to use symbolism in my poetry visual such as the use of the tv screen representing the idea of social media and technology, how significant it was to show the new developing stage where they begin to love themselves as the tv in malcom becomes a recuring motif.

contextual information on the poetic visual.

Poetic Aspect

taking inspiration from this short film, it inspired me to use muffled and disorientated voices from the beginning of the film as well as this, it also inspired me to use different languages in my poetic visual film.

as well as this, it shows the emotions of grief through the colour correcting and colour schemes of the short film, which i would also like to add in my poetic visual, including the colour grading.

another thing i took from this film that inspired me was the aspect ratio, in my personal opinion using asoect ratio to an audience can make it feel homey.
